Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday September 11, 2020 signed a law that gave judges a say on whether to list someone as a sex offender for having oral or anal sex with a minor.
The previous law, in place for decades, permitted judges to decide whether a man should be placed on California’s sex offender registry if he had voluntary intercourse with someone 14 to 17 years old and was no more than 10 years older than the person. That discretion only applied to a man who had vaginal intercourse. The new change permits judges to use that same discretion when the case involves voluntary oral or anal sex. A minor child coerced by an adult or threatened and operating out of fear, forced to say they consented, while the parent has no rights. Fourteen year old’s!! The bill was introduced by state Sen. Scott Wiener, a San Francisco Democrat. The bill passed the Assembly and Senate on split votes, with some members objecting to an easing of punishments against those who have sex with minors. “I cannot in my mind as a mother understand how sex between a 24-year-old and a 14-year-old could ever be consensual, how it could ever not be a registrable offense,” Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, D-San Diego, said before the bill’s passage. “We should never give up on this idea that children should be in no way subject to a predator.”
Local and national media at the time attacked anyone who objected and called critics who expressed that this law allows pedophiles an easier path to preying on minors, as spreading false narratives. This is the California that Gavin Newsom wants. One that allows predators to prey on children. His open border policy allows for child sex trafficking and this bill protects those same traffickers. Newsom has used medical tyranny to shut down businesses and churches. He has caused a massive homeless crisis and encouraged a lawless climate that gives criminals and gangs free reign to attack and victimize law abiding businesses and citizens. California leads the nation in Poverty. California has a massive opioid crisis and with Newsom there is no hope.
I was born and raised in the California Bay Area, once the envy of the world. I am saddened by what has become of my once home state. A Recall of Newsom would be a great first step.
