In 1878 my Great Great Grandfather Giovanni (John) arrived in America from Alpicella, Italy. Since Ellis Island would not open for 14 more years, he entered through Castle Garden and headed to Eureka Nevada where a “relative” had paid his fare in exchange for his labor. He worked in the coal mines to earn the money to pay back his fare and to save enough to bring his wife and two sons and a daughter he had never met to America. John worked hard and had traditional values. He believed in God, family and his opportunity tp pursue the American dream. It was a hard life and they worked long hours. Finally they bought a ranch of their own and in the winter of 1932 they discovered the durability of the Curly Haired Horse. My Damele family has bred and maintained the breed of horse called “curly” for nearly 100 years. My Grandfather Atilio was loaned $10,000 to join 7 other men, a total of eight Italians all related in some way, to start the Oakland Scavenger company. They worked hard all week and then had a dance and family time on Friday night and Saturday, before church on Sunday.
These values are deeply ingrained in the Italian culture. They are also a part of America. God and Faith and a Christian belief system. One that values life, does not kill babies. One that values women by not trying to take advantage of her but rather courts her and marries her and has children together. A culture where men understand what leadership looks like and where women are valued and secure enough to raise a family. And yes, as Phyllis Schlafly showed us you can be all that and a successful professional career, too. The Italian Prime Minister holds to a Christian worldview and is a success. But her statement pushes all the buttons of the woke left and so they call her “Far Right”.
“I am Giorgia, I am a woman, I am a mother, I am Italian, I am Christian.”
How dare she, they say! There are no longer mothers as children are raised by the state and its collective. What is a woman anyway? How sexist that she would define herself as something that the left can’t. She is a birther in their estimation, one who has “birthed” a child, nothing more. She claims to be Italian. What daring to celebrate any European white descent. Then there is the final nail. She says she is a Christian. This is the greatest of sins and makes sense to the woke, since she claimed her biological self an attitude, they find abhorrent, but means she may yet be the victim of a misogynist. How can she be so naïve they say? How can she possibly mean it? Yet in her next quote she makes it abundantly clear. She means it and she serves a higher power.
“We will defend God, country and family,” Meloni declared. “Those things that disgust people so much. We will do it to defend our freedom, because we will never be slaves and simple consumers at the mercy of financial speculators. That is our mission. That is why I came here today.”
The media will continue to hijack terms and redefine words. It will continue to try to control and be the mouthpiece for the those who would act out of fear. Georgia Meloni would appear not to be that person and we should celebrate her victory.
A woman, a mother, name your nationality and a Christian as a leader in the free world is guaranteed to sell tickets and represents the very best of who we can be.
